The festival [CottonFest] was designed as a dynamic and inclusive platform that brought together established artists and emerging talent from the realms of music, fashion, art, and street culture.

After seven successful years, CottonFest became a beloved event, drawing fans from all over the country and securing its place as a staple in the country. It evolved into one of the nation’s key cultural celebrations focused on youth engagement.
On Tuesday, 9 December, CottonFest announced via their social media channels the unfortunate news regarding the festival’s conclusion, stating that it will be coming to an end.

“Since 2019, you have all been instrumental in the success of the Festvial but more so, in keeping the movement and Ricky’s legacy alive. After months of deliberation, it is with a very heart that we share the news that it is the end of an era for the festival,” the press statement reads.
The conclusion of the CottonFest was prompted by disagreements among the existing shareholders, which have resulted in conflicts between them. This has made it progressively difficult to sustain the festival in a way that maintains the standards and vision intended to support its sole founder, Ricky Rick. Bianca Naidoo and the CottonFest Team conveyed this information in a public statement.
“CottonFest has always been rooted in creativity, community and cultural celebration focused on creating a platform for the youth to shine,” CottonFest owner and organiser Bianca Naidoo said. “While we remain extremely proud of what the festival has achieved and are deeply grateful for the support it has received from our fans, partners and the artists over the years, the differences in the festival’s vision and purpose among the two parties has made it clear to our family and the team, that concluding this chapter is the most realistic path forward.”

Although the festival will no longer operate in its present format, the CottonFest Creative Programme, which was initiated in 2025, will persist. This initiative aims to provide year-round opportunities for emerging talent, with the team expressing optimism regarding future plans designed to promote creative expression in innovative ways.
