Echoes of Verse: Bridging the Gap Between Young and Old

On Tuesday, 16 September at 16:30, a compelling production that you cannot overlook will be showcased at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Bunting Theatre.

This event is presented by the Market Theatre Foundation’s Kwasha, Theatre Company, and UJ Arts and Culture, which is part of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) at UJ. The production is titled Revolution of Words: A Poetic Uprising Bridging Generations.

Revolution of Words is an impactful and thought-provoking poetry production that merges the depth of South Africa’s literary heritage with the vibrancy and immediacy of contemporary voices. It showcases multigenerational performances that highlight the richness of South Africa’s poetic legacy alongside the urgent expressions of the present.

Featuring a thoughtfully selected array of poems from the Grade 11 and 12 school curricula in conjunction with the daring works of contemporary poets, Revolution of Words guarantees a transformative theatrical experience that inspires, provokes thought, and moves audiences through the potency of spoken word. Directed by Khethukuthula Jele, with movement direction by Sinenhlanhla Mgeyi and artistic curation by Lebo Mashile, Jade Bowers, and Quaz Roodt, this production transcends mere performance—it serves as a call to action and a celebration of identity, language, and the lasting influence of poetry.
