This upcoming November, as we approach the year’s conclusion and the festive season, many will find a time for relaxation after a long, arduous year. However, for artists, there is no respite. The Joburg Theatre is set to present an exciting and groundbreaking cultural event that aims to captivate, challenge, and inspire.
Tebogo Montse, the visionary artist behind two compelling personas—Mkhanyakude and Pepsin—will take centre stage in Mkhanyakude x Pepsin: A two-day cultural explosion, which will unfold over two unforgettable nights at the Lesedi Theatre on 29 and 30 November.
This event transcends mere performance. It serves as a testament to a journey into duality—two distinctive worlds crafted by a single artist, each possessing its own rhythm, message, and soul.

On the first night, audiences can expect to be entertained by recording artists from the Maximum Stylez Record Label, along with two guest performers. This showcases the enduring legacy of MSR and the quality it has consistently produced over the years, offering a glimpse of what is to come.
The evening will commence with a red carpet reception, followed by a carefully curated performance and an intimate question-and-answer session with Montse himself. This event will provide a unique opportunity to engage directly with the creative force behind two of South Africa’s most dynamic artistic voices.
The second night will offer the complete theatrical experience, immersing the audience in the lives of Mkhanyakude and Pepsin. Through music, movement, and storytelling, Montse will embody each character in a performance that blends heritage with contemporary identity.
Mkhanyakude, rich in tradition and ancestral wisdom, channels the spirit of the land and the echoes of oral storytelling. His presence is poetic, mystical, and deeply entrenched in South African culture. In contrast, Pepsin represents Montse’s reggae persona—a vibrant force of rhythm and resistance, celebrated within the reggae community for his bold social commentary and messages of unity and hope.
Although these characters are distinct, they are not opposites. They are reflections of the same soul—two perspectives through which Montse examines the complexities of identity, belonging, and transformation. “Mkhanyakude and Pepsin are not opposites,” states Montse. “They are reflections of the same soul. Through them, I am able to narrate the story of our origins and our future, both as South Africans and as global citizens.”
Presented by Maximum Styles, Mkhanyakude x Pepsin transcends mere entertainment—it embodies a cultural declaration.
Each evening will be enhanced by a VIP experience, providing guests the opportunity to interact with distinguished attendees, enjoy exclusive privileges, and observe the blend of style and substance that characterizes Montse’s creations.
Tickets are available for R300 per show exclusively through Webtickets. Audiences are encouraged to participate on both nights to fully appreciate the breadth of Montse’s artistry. Attending one night offers inspiration; attending both nights presents a masterclass in character, culture, and performance.
